In the early morning hours of Saturday May 21, District 9 was dispatched to a kitchen fire at 153 Hudson Street. Upon arrival, Chief Mullen reported a working fire and requested the balance of the first alarm.
With fire showing from windows on three sides of the house, crews from first due Engine 9-5 and second due Truck 9-2-4 stretched two handlines to extinguish the fire and protect exposures. Crews from Districts 11, 12, and 7 backed up the initial attack crews, and performed ventilation as well as salvage and overhaul. District 8 was on scene as the rapid intervention crew, and District 4 and Carteret covered the empty firehouses.
One resident and two firefighters were transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the blaze.
